FCAT practice exam

Eighth graders have to take every FCAT exam (writing, math, reading and science). No other grade has to take as many exams in one year. Language arts students at Carver Middle School prepare for the FCAT as well as study their regular curriculum. Natalia Ramirez takes a practice test during class.

An FCAT assignment doesn’t sound all that exciting, but you have to make the most of a seemingly boring situation. As I quietly photographed the students in this eighth grade classroom while they took their practice exam, this girl lifted up her booklet and I was able to make a few images before she placed it back on the desk. I was happy that I was able to create a more graphic image to illustrate the story, rather than just a photograph that showed a few students taking an unknown test in a classroom.
